(Update) Threats Force Newark-Bound Plane To Return To Boston; Passenger Removed From Flight

Update: The call to New Jersey officials that forced a Newark-bound flight to return to Boston was a hoax, Massachusetts State Police said on Monday. The man removed from the flight posed no threat to the plane's safety, never made threats, and is now cooperating with police.

A passenger jet had to return to Boston Logan Airport Sunday afternoon, July 30, after authorities received a tip that a passenger on the plane had made threats.

Investigators said they will now turn their focus to finding the person who made the fake-threat call to New Jersey police.

Original: A plane headed to Newark Airport over the weekend was forced to turn around after authorities received a tip that a passenger had made threats of violence.

Delta Airlines flight 5770, departed Boston Logan Airport at 5:30 p.m., but passengers didn't make it far before they were forced to return on Sunday, July 30. An anonymous caller contacted New Jersey authorities to report the threats.

Massachusetts police did not disclose what threats were made.

Authorities waiting at the airport escorted a passenger off the plane when it returned to Boston. Bomb-sniffing dogs checked the man's two checked bags, but they found nothing dangerous.

Once the man was removed and his bags were cleared, the plane resumed its flight to New Jersey.

The man's name was not released.
